Long Journey Home: A Guide to Your Search for the Meaning of Life

What an interesting and thorough guide for Truth Seekers! Os Guinness really doesn't take for granted the reader knows the end, or even necessarily what they seek. Not everyone is a seeker, but some just know there has to be more to this life. Guinness addresses these.

Through intriguing narratives of individuals like Michael Foucalt, G. K. Chesterton, W. H. Auden, and C. S. Lewis, the author shows seekers in the main streams of thought. Creatively, the reader is led to ask whether there is a "why" worth looking for, and how to fairly test a faith or world-view.

Guinness divides world's faiths into three families; Eastern, secular humanism, and Christianity. Some readers might want to be more legalistic and split hairs, but I thought the explanations made sense. Particularly as the author takes us to examine and find where and how the first two fail the tests for containing real truth. By the time we get to the third, any honest thinker must concede - hopefully gladly, that Christ is Truth.

This is an excellent book to give to an honest seeker, no matter what the background or upbringing, for Guinness is tactful but clear on all points. Easy to read and enjoyable too, even for those who think they are non-intellectual.
